• Thursday came and went with the awful news of Ponchos hand. The Crazy Horse guitar man broke his fingers and Neil Young cancelled the show. Too fucking bad. In our humble opinion Mr Young could´ve picked up a acoustic guitar, lit up a small bonfire on stage and given the audience a solo show of the ages. But hey, hey. Shit happens.
So thank god for the Alabama Shakes. The voice of Brittany Howard mesmerized us and the garden of lunatics back at Slottsskogen. A rocking sweating emotional gig to remember.
Then friday came. Or should we say Håkan Hellström. The swedish all star just slammed dunked his hypnotic eyes in the super bowl of love. Songs like ’Valborg’, ’För sent för edelweiss’, ’En midsommarnattsdröm’ and the ending, evergrowing ’Du är snart där’. Tears in our eyes.
A special note to Of Monsters And Men & Johnossi who both made beautiful shows. Cracking stuff.
…
…
Today we enter on a high. Phosphorescent, Dungen, Iris DeMent, Goat, Cat Power, James Blake, Alicia Keys, Miriam the Believer. We calleth upon ya´ll.
Hours til this shit´s gonna hit our fan in a major blowup kinda way. Yes, we are excited.
Iris DeMent from Paragould, Arkansas, got the country twang all covered. She´s been around for ages and just keeps gettin better. This is well hopped stuff from the heartlands – got us all jingle-jangely. Iris DeMent got a well deserved bump from Stay to Way, and we got a date on Saturday afternoon.
PS: You know the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris? Yepp, namned after fräulein DeMent.
Stuffs been heating up. Rodriguez onboard, Håkan Hellström up for a friday fight, The Roots checking in. Ten days to go, and we got some piece of advice: Do not miss Cat Power.
Cat Power or Chan Marshall, singersongwriter from Atlanta, Georgia, is very special to us. She´s what great music is all about. On the level, love and hate and everything inbetween. It will be emotions all over the place when she enters the dear stage.
We´ve got 15 days to go til the epic Way Out West start their everlasting engines in Slottsskogen, Gothenburg, Sweden. Kentuckyseven are proud to be onboard and covering this shit for ya´ll.
First out in our countdown of violently cool artists who´ll tender our loins – hero and musical freedom fighter numbero uno; Neil Young. Mr Young will take his crazy horses upon stage August 8th. Hey, Hey. My, My.
Check out his great whistelingtune ’Walk Like A Giant’ from the beautiful 2012-album ’Psychedelic Pill’. 16 minutes of pure heaven.
A month and a half to go. Then Way Out West will finally kick off in Slottsskogen, Gothenburg, Sweden. This will be the festival to look up this summer.
The starting XI is – as always – great with big-stuff-headliners mixed with folk-rock-gems. And the signing of Swedish Godfather Joakim Thåström – his only gig of 2011 – makes us @ Kentuckyseven go hmpfh.
Check out this great b-side-take of his 2005-song ’Fan Fan Fan’ recorded 03.00, alone in the studio. Pretty stunning.
Way Out West keeps two feet in front of everyone else this summer. Superstars Prince and Kanye West are joined by our swedish godfather Joakim Thåström, the everlasting Fleet Foxes, instru-gods Explosions In The Sky, fking awesome Yuck, hot Edward Sharpe, oldgold The Jayhawks, folky-vibe Timber Timbre, beautiful Warpaint, and my personal favband The Avett Brothers.
And we still got our hopes up bout The Head And The Heart…
Latest booking is very interesting, iamamiwhoami. Check out this vid:
Having almost created a genre of their own with the first album, this Seattle-based folk band follows up with greatness. A sophomore album with dignity. I am stunned, just like in 2008.
Mr Pecknold know his way around folk, having created the feeling of the sixties-sound cloaked in a modern wardrobe. The vocals and instruments makes you wait for the next album already. The lyrics are like stories, and wanders from barefoot to heavy workboots. Know this, this album is bound for many late night sessions in the summer to come.
In interviews, Pecknold refers to his feelings for this album, wanting to create something in the vicinity of Van Morrisson’s Astral Weeks. Beeing inspired by Roy Harpers album Stormcock. I say this is nothing less than epic stuff.
Like many follow-ups, the anticipation is great, and having followed Fleet Foxes during the process, on Twitter, I have been more than inpatient. I have to say, the wait was not at all in vain, it exceeded my expactations. Way beyond, that is.
Fleet Foxes will be playing Way Out West this summer, I will be there, believe me, I will be there.
Close to perfection, again. This album is a clear six. A Kentuckyseven-Classic already.
Been waiting forever. Just to get a date. And finally it’s out there. May 2 is the date. The date to mark in your calendar.
Fleet Foxes second album ”Helplessness Blues” will be released May 2:nd. The Seattleband follows up on their superdebut from 2008.
Producer on the new album is Phil Ek (Band of Horses, Modest Mouse and Shins among many). The album is released on Bella Union (Cosmos Music Group)
Twelve new tracks, and one new member. And for those of you who want to see them this summer. You’re in luck. Fleet Foxes are signed up for europe’s best festival. Way Out West.
Håkan Hellström greppade 25 000 personer vid strupen och fullkomligt körde över oss igår kväll. Inga frågor finns kvar att ställa. Inga känslor finns kvar att känna. Inget syre finns kvar att andas. Håkan für alle.
I övrigt blev Kentuckysevens setlista under lördagen: Mumford & Sons, Anna Ternheim, Pavement, Broken Bells, Laura Marling, Christopher Sander.
Men tack Håkan. Vi ses 6 november i Scandinavium. Då åker sjömanskostymen fram igen.
