I am sometimes asked, what kind of music do you write about on Kentuckyseven, and the answer is more than often: hard to describe, but I am sure you’d like it, it is just great music that we love. Horse Thief is a great example of just that.
A band from Texas, now ”finding themselves” in Oklahoma, with frontman Cameron Neal and his familiar voice. Lovers of bands as Fleet Foxes will feel right at home, only this is even more naked and thruthful. Horse Thief just signed with Bella Union (only the greatest label ever) and will release their new album ”Fear in Bliss” April 15.

Whiskey Myers got their brand new album Early Morning Shakes out Feb 4. It´s a southern rock classic.
The album got sweet shades of Led Zeppelin, Blackberry Smoke, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Oak Arkansas, Allman Brothers Band and Black Crowes – and they cover a David Allen Coe-song.
This hard working outlaw-countryband is from Tyler, Texas and it´s their third full-lenght LP. I´m pretty sure the record will take them to the moon and back, it´s pretty amazingly awesome.
I am fully aware that I am a sucker for real grit-folk-americana-music. So this band really hit the spot. Hailing from both North Carolina and California, the two singer-songwriters Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf created ”Goodnight, Texas”, a band that makes music the way it was supposed to be like.
The music sounds exactly as I expected after seeing the album cover from their forthcoming debut ”A Long Life of Living” which will be released october 2. It is winding, real, filled with mandolins and banjos and simply amazing harmonies. If you are looking to find something real this fall. This is the album to look for.

Bandet kommer till Way Out West i Slottsskogen i sommar. Oh broder, vad jag ska se den konserten.
Okkervil River är från Austin, Texas. Bandet lirar en musik som fullständigt vibrerar av … ja, vad kallas det där nu? Det där som gör att man lyssnar lite extra noga? Trycker örat mot högtalaren. Det där nerviga, äkta, skitiga? Beats me. Men jag vet att jag gillar det.
Sjumannabandet har dessutom den goda smaken att ge ut en bonusplatta, med alternativa versioner av originallåtarna. Något för andra band att ta efter.
Jag såg den sista Rockyfilmen häromdan. Med farsan i Spårhaga. Det kändes tryggt och lagom respektfullt till en filmserie som ändå betytt något.
Jag får samma känsla när jag lyssnar på Rocky Votolato. En trygg, skön känsla. Lite som att komma hem. Altcountry med munspel, finstämda texter om whisky och annan sprit.
Rocky Votolato föddes i Texas 1978, bor i Seattle och har spelat i flera grupper jag aldrig hört talas om. Han har gått från rockband till ensam folksångare och det är bara att applådera. I vissa stunder äger Rocky sin genre.
Jag tänker hänga med Rocky Votolato framöver, vart han än går. Han är helt enkelt jävligt bra på det han gör.
