Turn off your television

Jonas

Swedish music keeps knocking on our Americanadoor and keeps being interesting, fresh and worth waiting for. This time we introduce ’Turn off your television’ – a wounderful three man band from Malmö with a bright shiny future.

TOYT got their own nerve, their own blackness, depth and sound. The self-titled debutrecord is filled with delicious rockmusic that grabs hold of your guts – never willing to let go.  This album is higly addictive and all over our Kentuckysevenoffice.

Folky, alt-country-vibrante, great songs, strong vocals, Avettbro-style; deserving an audience. Check it out.

How Come You Never Go There

Kentuckyseven

Leslie Feist, the Canadian whom we have grown to love during the years is releasing her fourth album, Metals.

The release is set to October 4th, on Universal / Polydor in europe.

Her last album, The Reminder, was one of 2007′ best albums, and still holds a massive place in our world of great music. When James Blake covered her Limit To Your Love, we picked up the album again. This is the real deal.

I am sure that Feist will let no one down with her new stuff. Just listen to this, and you will be as assured as I am.

Miss K…

Kentuckyseven

Deer Tick, the band who made one of last years absolute greatest album ”Black Dirt Sessions” is releasing another album.

The name of the album is Divine Providence and it is the fourth album in five years. Listening to the song they have released for download ”Miss K”, it sounds like good ol country is having a part in this one.

Recorded and produced at home in Rhode Island, the record will be out come October 25 on Partisan Records.

Hell, it is a long way to both Tipperary and October 25. Listen to ”Miss K” right here… Deer Tick – Miss K.

Brown Bird – Salt for Salt

Magnus

Photo: Mikael Kennedy

When we interviewed The Low Anthem earlier this year, they mentioned Brown Bird as something to listen in on. We did.

Brown Bird is David Lamb and Morganeve Swain. From Rhode Island, like so many other of the greatest bands that we have met. Their music is, as they put it themselves, ”best listened to in a room of wood”. Could not agree more.

It is Americana, the way it was intended. It makes you stomp your feet, nod your head and just close your eyes and dream of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Their forthcoming full-length will be released october 18 by Supply & Demand. If you like long beards, beautiful voices, banjo and sweet sweet music, you wanna pick that one up.

The Apache Relay

Jonas

You into heavy drugs as Starsailor, Cold War Kids, The Head And The Heart, The Avett Brothers? Well we are, and guess our delight when we found a new fav band from Nashville, Tennessee.

The Apache Relay is lead singer Michael Ford Jr and his bandmates who creates thrilling folkrock, it´s sturm und drang and a happy shore to be washed upon. Their  sophomore album American Nomad is pure magic.

Eleven songs, one is the cover of the Springsteen-tune State Trooper from his everlasting Nebraska-album. Good taste, I´d say.

And don´t miss the title-track American Nomad. Beautiful Apachestuff.

Meet Josh Garrels

Jonas

Josh Garrels is a multitalented singersongwriter from Portland, Oregon.  This summer his latest album ”Love & War & The Sea in between” hit the streets, a true gem.

Garrels writes songs that span soundscapes and heartscapes. It´s that beautiful folkmusic touch between Woody Guthrie and David Grey.

It´s definately a record you need.

From Texas with love…

Magnus

You get friends from great places, when you write about music, that is a fact. But some of those friends come with an add-on.

A good friend from Louisville, Kentucky once told me to listen to two artists. One of them was a singersongwriter from Texas. Her name? Sarah Jaffe. That was some good advice. I got it from the first listen. This is really great.

The summer of 2011 she will be touring with bands like Centromatic, Old 97’s and Bosque Brown. Now that is someting to follow.  She will hit Louisville KY at aug 31. Dammit, why aren’t we in Kentucky..

She will release an EP shortly, September 27 to be exact. Name? The Way Sound Leaves a Room, I suggest you make a note in your calendar…

Kentuckyseven hope to catch some of the magic, somehow. Meanwhile take a look-see at this…
