The Jim Jones Revue is back

Jonas

They are back. We loved their latest album and we love their new one, The Savage Heart, released Oct 15.

It´s pianodriven rock n roll – the way it should be done. It´s old fashion, high octane, overboost, Jerry Lee Lewis meets The Hellacopters, a boogieride without exit doors.

John Ola. Black Holes. Double Vision. Clairvoyance.

Magnus

Kentuckyseven is all about great music. Great musicians and great creators. In 2009 we hooked up with our good friend John Ola. Then, an angry member of the awesome punk-band C-Armeé.

Now the man has released some seriously wicked music. And an amazing video. So looking forward to the album. We will look out… Meanwhile:

Reverend Peyton Big Damn Band

Jonas

Reverend Peyton Big Damn Band is a great footstompin deltablues hillbilly trio from Brown County, Indiana.

They mix their evil americana drink without any trace of remorse. This is the badlands.

Check out their song Devils Look Like Angels from the new album Between the ditches. Great stuff!

Jonas

Check out swedish band ’The Sweet Serenades’ new singel ’Can’t Get Enough´. The band is childhood friends Martin Nordvall and Mathias Näslund. They rock and they roll their way through life. We dig the ride.

Bill Fay and his beautiful song

Jonas

Bill Fay is an english songwriter who made a great record, his first studioalbum in over 40 years! The LP ’Life is People’ is very emotional, honest and beautiful. A well deserved success for the forgotten man.

Check out the single ’Be at peace with yourself’ – a song to honour life, a great tune for any funeral.

Review: MONO

Jonas

¤ Artist: Mono

¤ Album: For My Parents

¤ Release: September 2012

¤ Judge says: 7/7 Kentuckyseven’s

¤ Best song on: Nostalgia

Where to begin? Lordy, lord. I´m rarely into postrock/shoegaze-stuff but this record blew me away to another dimension.

It´s an arresting moment of clarity. A dangerous retrospective sense of lost memories. Tears to my eyes. I feel sorry for the earth, I feel weaker and stronger than ever. Double vibes of eternity.

This is post-everything. Mono don´t use their rock n roll guitars the way you would imagine. It´s texture. It´s fantasy. It´s above the clouds and underground.

This is shoegaze without the arrogance. It´s – first and foremost – feelings. Big, strong, everlasting feelings. A soundtrack to a Haruki Murakami book.

My lungs struggles for air, my heart pounds hard. This could knock you down and out. Mono makes the strongest blend there is.

Mono is from Tokyo, Japan. This is their sixth album. They started out in 1999 and keep coming back for more. The four members Takaakira Goto (sologuitar), Yoda (rhytmguitar), Tamaki Kunishi (electric bass) and Yasunori Takada (drums) tours the US right now and heads for Europe later on.

‘For My Parents’, with a great and emotional front picture, was released on September 4th. An all instrumental, epic piece of bewildering art. They have a full-scale orchestra in the studio and it´s dedicated to their parents. They´ve made an effort well worthy a Kentucky Seven!

PS: You know the world is a fucked up place when Mono´s venue in Gothenburg, Sweden is Truckstop Alaska. But hey. I´ll be there. Forever and ever.

What are you listening to… Stephanie Dosen?

Magnus

Ever since 2007, one album has been haunting me. Stephanie Dosen’s –  ”A Lily For The Spectre” (Bella Union) that had to be one of the greatest, and most well kept secrets of that year.

The album is pure magic, and Dosen’s voice and presence is everything I wish for in genuine music. Her voice. Her distinct yet subtle way of presenting her stories, is nothing less than divine.

Stephanie Dosen, a Wisconsin born singer/songwriter of fantastic proportions, that later moved to UK and in 2008 became the lead vocalist for Massive Attack on their european tour. And the later, toured with the Midlake and also contributed with vocals on ”Bring Down” from the album ”The Courage of Others” (2010).

Been waiting to see what would be following that album up, but it has been really quiet, until the rumors start spreading that an album might be on the way…

An album with Simon Raymonde in the form of a band called Snowbird… And if you read about it on Bellaunion.com, we can expect contributions from Radiohead, Midlake and Jonathan Wilson. This is bound to be great, beyond great.

What you might not know: Dosen is super talented when it comes to knitting and designing… http://tinyowlknits.wordpress.com/

I had the opportunity to ask Stephanie some short questions… here is what she said:

– What are you listening to, right now?

”-My fountain, birds, wind chimes & ambient anything.”

– Best book read in a while?

”The Sea Priestess by Dion Fortune.”

– Your hopes for this year?

”Finish my book and get the Snowbird record out!”

– Three artists who inspire you?

”Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, Cocteau Twins.”

– Who deserves a breakthru in 2012?

”Whoever Einstein came back as.”

We are so looking forward to the Snowbird album, meanwhile…

A lily for the Spectre is one of my absolute favorite albums… if that has not already been made obvious… Listen for yourself:

Future History

Jonas

Future History, an experimental, five-piece alternative rock band from Toronto, got their debut-LP ’Loss:/self’  out in the streets.

It´s a concept album, some of that FM-rock-vibe that makes me wanna get behind the wheels and keep driving til it gets pitch black. And then some.

Add a bit of Pink Floyd, the sprawling albums of Radiohead, and the sonic aesthetics of modern psychedelica. There you go.

Meet: Moon Duo

Jonas

Moon Duo is a San Fran-band, formed back in 2009 by Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada. Check out their space rock stuff filled with dreamy encounters. A psychotic circus without a doctor in sight. Insane perfection.

Their second full-lenght LP ’Circles’ is released Oct 1, via Souterrain Transmissions. The album is the product of a long winter isolation in the Rocky Mountains. All songs are written in Blue River, Colorado. The inspiration came from Ralph Waldo Emersons 1841 essay ’Circles’.
