You know that things will turn out great when you have THE Ray Lamontagne on one side, and THE Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) on the other, doing things together.
It has been six years since the last solo album (Gossip in The Grain 2008) and four years since the last album with The Pariah Dogs (God Willin & The Creek Don’t Rise 2010).
This time Mr Lamontagne teamed up with legendary Dan Auerbach and the long awaited album will be out may 6 this year. The first single was released today. As alway, pure gold throughout… Listen for yourself.
No Sinner is a awesome Canadian bluesrockband heading right back to the roots. Self-described as ”hard-singing, hard-loving, hard-drinking and hard-working” you got the blueprint.
Singer Colleen Rennison is a regular powerhouse, a rocker on a mission with the voice knocking me down and out. Check out the song Boo Hoo Hoo, and have a good one.
This Friday of love, passion and devotion we present Robert Stjernberg and his hypnotic new song Valentine. Dark, minimalistic, passive-aggressive. Very likable.
His debut album Tasers & Headshots, recorded in the classic Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg, hit the streets March 12.
I met a great alt-country band down in Copenhagen. Sink Ships are two Australians, one Swede and two Danes with the darling ”rocking chair on the porch”-vibe . They got a low-key colour impossible to resist, with the pitch-black violin by Emilia Olson being way out wonderful.
Sink Ships are even better live. They deliver the goods; very impressive, very lovely. The bands debut EP Half The Boy (2012) was followed by Sink Ships (2013). Do check them out, start out with songs On My Way and Woke Up Laughing below and imbibe the brilliance.
Hero Bruce Springsteen played Perth, Australia yesterday Feb 8th. On a 3-day-stint, his first ever in the remote Westlands, The Boss opened up the show in a breathtaking manner. This is absolutely the perfect first song on any setlist down under. Or anywhere, anytime.
Perth is also where Bon Scott (RIP) was born. The legendary rock’n’roll singer got a statue in Freemantle, just outside of town. Note that it takes four E-street:ers to fill the shoes of an Angus Young guitar solo. Respect!
Today, Way Out West released their first couple of artist for the August event in Slottsskogen. Kentuckyseven are happy to see the oldie-goldies of Neutral Milk Hotel in the headlines. Let´s celebrate this Friday with their beautiful song Oh Sister. Love to you all.
Kentuckyseven went and saw DeerTick in Copenhagen, a late Tuesday night, 28th of January. The band gigs Pustervik in Gothenburg this Friday – be sure not to miss it. They’re on top of their game, just the perfect, noisy, most wonderful rock orchestra around.
Introducing the band, all the way from Providence, Rhode Island:
• The frontman: JohnMcCauley. A Tuborg loving genius with the voice, presence & nerve. You never know what he´ll do next; skittish, flighty, volatile. A brilliant, wonderful bare-fist-fighting rocker.
• The guitarman: IanO’Neill. The Angus Young of Rhode Island. Stomping around the stage with a nervous breakdown in both legs. Does great Pete Seeger (RIP) covers and shines on stage.
• The bassplayer: ChrisRyan. Very preppy, very cool, very Draco Malfoylike. Lock up your daughters.
• The drummer: DennisRyan. Very happy, very bearded, very Hagridlike. Lock up your mothers.
• The keyboard/saxophone: RobertCrowell. Very mature, boogie-woogie. Lock up your dads.
We salute them all with a 21 Gun Salute and a shot of the preferred.
The band is just beautiful, mixing rock, folk, blues with their own songwriting and at the same time; very appreciative of their heritage, it´s all about the roots. They end the gig in Copenhagen with La Bamba in their own magical way and yes – the roof blew off poor little danish Vega.
They played 1,5 hours and every song was meant to be. John McCauley drinks his green beer bottles with no hands, frusting and spitting. I don´t know where this band is heading, but they got rock n’ roll in their veins. They got it all. The brilliance, the nerve AND a good time. They laugh, kiss and fool around on stage. Pretty fucking far from Woods.
Listen up Deer Tick’s latest record Negativity. And for Pete’s sake don´t miss the 2010-masterpiece Black Dirt Sessions, with the song Mange. And please, check out the brilliant show-opener The Rock below.
