• From the capital city of Sweden we find the garage punk rock act of Lucern Raze. The single Someone Like You from the upcoming debut album Stockholm One (release Feb 25) is plain awesome. A slow moving roller coaster of hidden emotions, drugs to our muddy ears.
Lucern Raze is a new project from Luke, ex-frontman of London-band Sex Beet. Talented geezer, no doubt.
• Mary Caroline from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories got us hooked immediately on her folky vibe and gritty northern imagery. The Canadian singer-songwriter lives just below the Arctic Circle and works on a Animal Planet/Discovery show called Ice Lake Rebels. It gives her the opportunity to live ”off the grid” and focus on her songwriting. We salute her for every tune down that rocky road.
Check out MC´s debut album Life On Earth, released January 27th, and the great title track below.
• WULF is a brilliant London three-piece indie rock band will release their debut single ’Fire’ on December 1st through BMG Chrysalis. Enjoy a early listen, right here on Kentuckyseven. It’s a catchy, piano driven gem for sure.
The song is from the band’s debut EP ’Lairs’ (due for release Spring 2015) and we dig references as Black Keys, White Stripes, James Vincent McMorrow, Cold War Kids and Band of Horses. Golden, that is.
• Cancer is a danish duo with a hurtful, vibrant Antony and the Johnsons kind of swing. It´s haunting stuff from the bottom of the darkest well. Cancer is Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild and Kristian Finne Kristensen. Check out their epic song Same Color As Digital Photography.
• We were knocked out by the mans Harlem River Blues (2010). Well, todays release of Justin Townes Earles new record Single Mothers sounds pretty ground-flooring as well. The americana son is back for good.
• Ty Segall is up our alley for sure. A guitar-fuzzer with both feet in the 70’s psycho-garage scene and productive as hell. His 2014-album Manipulator is getting up high on a-many End of year lists. Very rightly so.
This San Fran 27 year old guitar-drummer man just keeps on giving. Check out this new tune Feel live on Conan.
• Check out this sorrow of a song, I Hope He Breaks Your Heart, from the great alt-countrymen American Aquarium.
The chorus pretty much sums it up. ”I hope he breaks your heart, I hope you cry all night, …and I hope you feel – the way I do now.”
This hard touring band from Raleigh, North Carolina, is BJ Barham, Kevin McClain, Colin DiMeo, Whit Wright, Bill Corbin and Ryan Johnson. It´s a Springsteen, Lucero, Drive-By Truckers kind of a twang.
Their latest album Burn.Flicker.Die is a masterpiece, give it a go.
• The Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis releases his brand new soloalbum Tied To A Star August 26. From what I´ve heard so far it is beautiful, tender and lo-fi mellow. This is a guy who masters his trade, no doubt.
As a bonus J Mascis will tour Sweden Dec 17 (Gothenburg) and Dec 19 (Stockholm). Check out the two new songs Wide Awake and Every Morning below, cheers!
