The Apache Relay
You into heavy drugs as Starsailor, Cold War Kids, The Head And The Heart, The Avett Brothers? Well we are, and guess our delight when we found a new fav band from Nashville, Tennessee.
The Apache Relay is lead singer Michael Ford Jr and his bandmates who creates thrilling folkrock, it´s sturm und drang and a happy shore to be washed upon. Their sophomore album American Nomad is pure magic.
Eleven songs, one is the cover of the Springsteen-tune State Trooper from his everlasting Nebraska-album. Good taste, I´d say.
And don´t miss the title-track American Nomad. Beautiful Apachestuff.
Meet Josh Garrels
Josh Garrels is a multitalented singersongwriter from Portland, Oregon. This summer his latest album ”Love & War & The Sea in between” hit the streets, a true gem.
Garrels writes songs that span soundscapes and heartscapes. It´s that beautiful folkmusic touch between Woody Guthrie and David Grey.
It´s definately a record you need.
From Texas with love…
You get friends from great places, when you write about music, that is a fact. But some of those friends come with an add-on.
A good friend from Louisville, Kentucky once told me to listen to two artists. One of them was a singersongwriter from Texas. Her name? Sarah Jaffe. That was some good advice. I got it from the first listen. This is really great.
The summer of 2011 she will be touring with bands like Centromatic, Old 97’s and Bosque Brown. Now that is someting to follow. She will hit Louisville KY at aug 31. Dammit, why aren’t we in Kentucky..
She will release an EP shortly, September 27 to be exact. Name? The Way Sound Leaves a Room, I suggest you make a note in your calendar…
Kentuckyseven hope to catch some of the magic, somehow. Meanwhile take a look-see at this…
Meet Joe Pug
The dear and everlasting Joe Pug have spent a good amount of time in my favorite town of Chicago, Illinois. If you´re into heavy stuff as Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, M Ward or Josh Ritter – this is your man.
Have you met… The Barr Brothers?
I would guess that this is not the last time we come across a great band from Rhode Island. Deer Tick, The Low Anthem and a whole bunch of them springing from a what seems to be a well with no bottom.
Brad and Andrew Barr is no exception, The Barr Brothers have been making music, or fighting their entire lives. And you can tell. This is genuine and pure love. A love for the music.
The Barr Brothers just signed with Secret City Records. Home of such great artists and bands as Patrick Watson & the Wooden Arms, Plants and Animals, Miracle Fortress, Basia Bulat and more. They should feel right at home.
The self-titled album will be released september 27th. I think you want to check that out. Meanwhile, listen to Beggar in the Morning. Sweet sweet stuff. From Providence…

The Drums – Portamento
The acclaimed brooklyn-based indie-trio The Drums has announced the release of their sophomore album. The band, made a sweet debut last year with their self-titled album, sold a shitload of albums and toured the globe.
The new album will appear very up close and personal. as Jonny Pierce describes it ”This new album touches everything from my extreme religious roots to transgenderism to violence, and of course there is plenty of heartbreak stuff, wich I couldn’t get away from even if I tried”
The first single ”Money” will be released September 5th, the album September 12th via Moshi Moshi / Cooperative Music. Listen to ”Money”, below…
I Break Horses – Heart
I Break Horses is formed by Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balck, from the capitol of Sweden. Not your average shoegazers, this is something larger. The music is ambient, mythical and makes you want to just open up your windows and let it fly away.
Their first video Hearts is spectacular, it is like being on a journey, without an end. Check it.

John Blaze in the house
John Blaze is a 20 year old guy from San Francisco who recently released his debut full length ’Album Three’. In his own words it´s ”lo-fi electrocoustic bedroom music” and hits the ground close to Avey Tare, Beach Boys and Atlas Sound. It´s bigrange, no limit and very, very interesting.
I love this guy and can see him hitting it big time. Check out his great song, ’Babys Got Her Blue Jeans On’ and rest assured; Kentuckyseven will be checking up on this dude in the future.
Heavy Suzukis
How bout some ruff stuff from the old country of England, influenced by greatness; Jerry Lee Lewis, At The Drive-In, Stooges and Sex Pistols.
These guys dont give a effing shite what we say, but listen to this 2 minutes and 16 seconds of rock n rola anyway.
It´s a Foo Fighters kind a twang, their album hits the street July 11 via Deltasonic.
