Have you met…. Mount David?
Mount David is David Andersson, a singer songwriter from Sweden. A man with a voice made of gold. Listening to his music strengthens the sensation of why we love music so bad. A genuine signal in the sound of white noise, a beacon of good feelings and great warmth.
Mount David resides on the same label as I’m Kingfisher Kite Recordings, a Kentuckyseven favorite. And just yesterday, he released a new song… Sit back. Relax. Enjoy.
Caleb Caudle on the porch
• We love Shovels and Rope. And when the almighty Caleb Caudle covers the wonderful Carry Ann Hearst-song The Thread. Well, it´s the best of all alt-country worlds we know of. This is pure Lone Star territory, enjoy!
For you who haven´t yet discovered the man Caleb Caudle, please check out his latest album Tobacco Town. It´s stuff to adore!
Watch: Angel Olsen – Forgiven/Forgotten
Angel Olsen, a new Kentuckyseven favorite, and also only the greatest indierock artist from Missouri, is this friday’s soundtrack.
Angel has worked with Bonnie Prince Billy in the past and has now a new awesome album out on Jagjaguwar ”Burn Your Fire For No Witness”, and from that same album we present: Forgiven/Forgotten. Stay free.
The cover of Bob Dylan
We love a good cover. But when it comes down to Bob Dylan (to whom we owe it all) it´s hard. There are so many! Some great, some not so great.
Among the top 10 we find beautiful takes as Sufjan Stevens – Ring Them Bells, Hederos & Hellberg – You’re a Big Girl Now, Antony & the Johnsons – Knockin’ on Heavens Door, Buddy Miller – With God on Our Side, The White Stripes – One More Cup of Coffee, Sixteen Horsepower – Nobody ’Cept You, Nina Simone – The Ballad of Hollis Brown… and off course the almighty Jimi Hendrix – All Along the Watchtower.
But today we give ya’ll a treat. Check out Wendy Bucklew and her swoop at Buckets of Rain. Devastating!
Hurray for the Riff Raff
Meet the absolutely amazing band from New Orleans, Louisiana: Hurray for the Riff Raff. It´s americana-folk-blues in shimmering robes. The singer/banjo-player Alynda Lee Segarra had us at the first riff. Or raff.
Check out great song The Body Electric from just-released album Small Town Heroes. It will make your day.
Lumberjack and the Suits
A pint of Honeymilk
Swedish Honeymilk got the sound. You know, the sound. Something you cannot chase down, something you cannot buy. You got it or you don´t.
Just smell the guitar solo 3:10 into the vid down below. You will get the drift. It is a thing of beauty, a walk in the desert, a night of black hole suns.
In April Honeymilk will launch an campaign in the US together with Brooklyn-based Never Better (Of Montreal, Mogwai, Pixies, Band of Horses) and also tour the UK. April 19 they gig Pet Sounds Bar, Stockholm. Check out new single Red Paper Buildings!
Memory Lane
This month of March, Merge Records decided tog make a 20th anniversary reissue of Bloomed, the 1994 debut album from Richard Buckner. The album will include 11 bonus tracks of radio sessions and live performances. Golden stuff.
Richard Buckner, described as ”equal parts Bay Area bohemian and dust bowl traditionalist” is an alt-country wanderer with heartache in every tune. In a comment to the re-issue Mr Buckner says: ”Nothing’s changed. I’m still dodging the sky and busking to strangers.”
Check out the 1994-song Gauzy Dress In The Sun.
